SastyBed, built by GOFTECH, is a Pakistani hostel management product with an unusually blunt commercial claim: free, permanently, with no commission on bookings. That claim deserves to be taken seriously rather than argued around, because for a lot of small operators it is the only number that matters.

Positioning
SastyBed is positioned as a two-sided product. One side is the hostel owner: bookings, a live occupancy grid, WhatsApp rent reminders, income and expense tracking, multi-branch management with role-based staff access, a staff attendance register, complaint and maintenance tracking, and inventory and asset tracking. The other side is the student, who gets an app to search hostels, book a bed, read the mess menu and pay. That marketplace-plus-management shape is closer to BedShift's own than most products in this comparison set.
BedShift is a single-sided product with a marketplace attached. Its centre is the operator's back office — invoicing, arrears, staff, housekeeping, complaints, analytics — and its resident portal and public marketplace listing extend outward from that.
Pricing transparency
SastyBed's pricing claim is stated plainly on its site: zero rupees per month, zero commission on any booking, a seven-day free trial and then free forever with no subscription and no card required. There is no per-bed pricing mentioned.
One thing we could not check: its /pricing URL returns a 404, and no paid tier
appears anywhere else on the site. So there is no published upgrade path, no
disclosed ceiling on the free plan, and nothing to compare a paid tier against.
That is not a criticism — a genuinely free product does not need a pricing page
— but it does mean a buyer cannot see in advance what, if anything, would ever
start costing money. If long-run cost predictability matters to you, ask them
directly and get the answer in writing.
BedShift publishes plans and per-plan limits, with a free plan that has no time limit and needs no card, and a 15-day trial on paid plans. Its amounts are set in Paddle and localised, so the pricing page is the only accurate source for a figure.
Payment rails
SastyBed lists JazzCash, EasyPaisa, debit and credit cards, bank transfer, and "pay at hostel" as supported payment methods, including international cards. Its site does not describe the mechanics behind the wallet options, so we are not going to characterise whether those are in-product checkouts or recorded payments — the page does not say, and guessing about a named competitor's architecture is exactly the kind of claim this page exists to avoid.
BedShift is explicit about its own boundary: it integrates Safepay for Pakistan and Stripe globally for card checkout, and for JazzCash, Easypaisa, Raast, IBFT and cash it records and reconciles the payment by channel and reference number rather than replacing the rail. If a competitor's wallet support turns out to be a true in-app checkout, that would be a real advantage over BedShift on that specific point, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
Market fit
Both products are built for Pakistan and use Pakistani terminology. Both handle multiple sites — SastyBed calls it multi-branch, BedShift calls it multi-property and caps it per plan. Both push notifications over WhatsApp; SastyBed advertises automated WhatsApp rent reminders, and BedShift documents a WhatsApp Business account connection using approved templates for invoices, payment confirmations, booking confirmations and complaint updates.
The clearest structural difference is depth on the back office. BedShift ships dedicated housekeeping, utility billing on higher plans, a resident portal, and analytics as separate modules. SastyBed advertises flexible billing covering mess, AC, internet, laundry and security charges, plus inventory and asset tracking, but does not advertise housekeeping scheduling.
The other difference is procurement. A free product with no disclosed commercial model is difficult to put through a formal purchase process, and gives you little leverage if support goes quiet. - You want to start today without talking to anyone. BedShift is currently onboarding new accounts personally while self-serve sign-up is being finalised, so getting started involves a conversation.
- Inventory and asset tracking matters to you. SastyBed advertises it directly; BedShift lists vendors and inventory only on its higher plans.
